VA Clinic on the Horizon in Gilbert AZ

Veterans HealthThe VA Clinic presently located in Mesa, AZ is one of the busiest medical facilities in the nation.  The Department of Veterans Affairs announced earlier this week plans to build a new clinic in Gilbert. The new clinic will be a two-story, 60,000 square foot facility and will replace the Mesa Clinic.  Completion is planned for the spring of 2014. The building will staff approximately 75 full-time people and is expected to create 423 jobs.  McShane Development Company, based in Illinois, will lease the facility to the VA for $2 million a year for 20 years. The new clinic will be able to service over 19,000 veterans in three counties.  Some of the added services will include audiology, radiology, dental care and physical therapy.  This will be a huge convenience for servicemen and women in the East Valley and other outlining areas. Veterans who have trouble getting to the VA Regional Hospital in Phoenix for special services such as physical therapy will now be in closer proximity to these outpatient services. The Department of Veterans Affairs currently has 19 outpatient clinics throughout The Valley, including Anthem, Casa Grande, and Buckeye.  These medical centers supplement the VA’s three major hospitals in Phoenix, Tucson and Prescott. Gilbert has been focusing on the health care and bioscience industry for future economic development.  Some of Gilbert’s medical facilities include Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, Mercy Regional Hospital, and the University of Texas Anderson Cancer Center. Construction is planned for the Ironwood Cancer and Research Center.  Banner Health just announced plans for an 87,000 square foot medical facility by 2013.  This puts Gilbert in the center of the map to more than 800 science and technology centers. The VA clinic will be located on the NE corner of Val Vista Drive and Market Street, just south of San Tan Village Shopping Center.  Construction will begin on the new VA medical center once it is approved by the Planning Commission and Design Review Board.  The clinic will be a welcomed addition to the already 2 million square feet of medical facilities.
